Position Overview:

The Superintendent of Commercial Construction is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of commercial construction projects from inception to completion. This role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Superintendent coordinates with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to deliver successful projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Coordination:

    • Develop and implement detailed project plans and schedules.
    • Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements and objectives are met.
    • Plan and organize daily construction activities to ensure efficient use of resources.
  2. Site Management:

    • Oversee all on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and safety protocols.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and ensure compliance with quality standards.
    • Manage and supervise on-site personnel, including subcontractors and laborers.
  3. Safety and Compliance:

    • Enforce safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
    • Ensure all site activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks with on-site personnel.
  4. Quality Control:

    • Monitor construction quality and ensure that work is completed to the required standards and specifications.
    • Identify and resolve any quality issues that arise during the construction process.
    • Conduct inspections and tests to verify the quality of workmanship and materials used.
  5. Budget and Cost Management:

    • Monitor project budgets and control costs to prevent overruns.
    • Review and approve subcontractor and supplier invoices.
    • Track and report project expenses to the project management team.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of construction activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and incident reports.
    • Prepare and submit required documentation to the project management team and relevant authorities.
    • Provide regular updates on project status and any issues or concerns.
  7. Problem-Solving:

    • Identify potential issues and proactively develop solutions to prevent delays and cost overruns.
    • Resolve conflicts or disputes that arise during the construction process.
    • Make informed decisions related to project execution and problem resolution.
  8. Client Relations:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on-site.
    • Communicate project status and any issues or concerns to clients.
    • Ensure client satisfaction by delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in commercial construction management.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily on-site at construction projects with occasional office work.
  • May require working outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet project deadlines.
