Construction Project Manager
Scott Humphrey
The Opportunity
A well-established and growing commercial general contractor is seeking a Project Manager to join its expanding presence in the San Antonio market.
The company already has an established client base and repeat work in San Antonio and is building a local team to better service those relationships and support continued growth in the market.
This is an opportunity to join the San Antonio operation at an early stage while still benefiting from the resources, processes, and support of an established Texas general contractor.
The ideal candidate will have strong Class A commercial interiors experience and be comfortable independently managing projects from preconstruction through closeout. This person should be highly client-focused, organized, financially savvy, and capable of managing multiple projects and relationships simultaneously.
Candidates with experience in Class A office interiors, corporate interiors, tenant improvements, high-end commercial renovations, and similar interior construction will be strongly considered.
Responsibilities
- Manage Class A commercial interior, corporate office, tenant improvement, and high-end commercial projects throughout the San Antonio market.
- Manage projects from preconstruction and planning through construction, turnover, and closeout.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, architects, subcontractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, forecasts, procurement plans, and overall project documentation.
- Manage subcontractor buyout, contracts, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and project cost controls.
- Monitor project financial performance, including cost forecasting, profitability, change management, and risk.
- Partner closely with Superintendents and field teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the expected level of quality.
- Lead project meetings and provide clear, consistent communication to clients and internal leadership.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with an emphasis on delivering an exceptional client experience and generating repeat business.
- Mentor and provide direction to Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and other project team members as assigned.
- Assist with preconstruction, estimating, constructability reviews, scheduling, and procurement planning as needed.
- Support the continued growth of the company’s San Antonio presence and collaborate closely with senior leadership and other Texas operations.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial construction with a general contractor.
- Significant experience managing Class A office interiors, corporate interiors, tenant improvements, commercial renovations, and/or high-end commercial buildouts.
- Proven experience independently managing commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, including preconstruction, estimating, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, subcontractor management, project execution, and closeout.
- Experience managing project financials, including budgets, cost forecasting, change orders, buyout, profitability, and risk.
- Strong working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, contracts, change management, scheduling, and project documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong client-facing, communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to effectively coordinate with Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, consultants, and ownership teams.
- Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop Project Engineers and Assistant Project Managers.
- Established experience within the San Antonio commercial construction market strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Must be based in or have strong ties to the San Antonio, TX market.
What Makes This Role Different
This is not simply an opportunity to manage projects within an established branch office.
The company already has repeat clients and active business in San Antonio and is intentionally building a local team to service that work and support continued growth.
The Project Manager will join during an important stage of that expansion, working alongside senior leadership while helping establish the company’s local presence, strengthen existing client relationships, and deliver the projects that will drive future growth.
For a Project Manager who enjoys high-end commercial interiors, strong client relationships, and the opportunity to get in early with a growing market team, this role offers significant long-term growth potential.
